Hayley 2005.jpg (20786 bytes)     Hayley Worgan, Women's Captain 2006

2006 has been a fantastic year; we still have 10 original playing members, and 2 who
continue to support us in many ways. The women’s section now has 22 playing members,
which is a great achievement in its self.

From the start of November we had nets, those who did turn up benefited from
Martin Wootton’s coaching and the use of the bowling machine.

This year we entered the Warwickshire Women’s 20:20 League and the
Women's Midlands League - Division 2 (North East).

Aldridge CC Women’s XI (47 all out) lost to
Bloxwich CC Women’s XI (48 for 0) by 7 wickets
(Warwickshire 20:20 Women’s League)

Bloxwich Women’s first game of the season ended with a comfortable 7 wicket victory
over local rivals Aldridge in the 20:20 league. Bloxwich won the toss and elected to bowl,
then with the first ball of the game Cheryl Allcock clean bowled the veteran Aldridge
batswoman Mel Cuthbert. All of Bloxwich’s bowlers took wickets with an excellent
spell of tight, accurate bowling leaving Aldridge all out for just 47 runs. Skipper Hayley
Worgan taking 2-6, Cheryl Allcock (1-6), Emma Pearce (1-6) and debutant twins
Charlotte and Kathryn Wythe (1-11) and (1-14). Also getting in on the act with a run out
was another debutant, wicket keeper Gemma Birch.
Cheryl Allcock (39 not out) capped an excellent performance when well supported by
fellow opener Emma Pearce (5 not out) knocking off the required 48 runs with ease in
8 overs. A good all round performance in the field gave Bloxwich a well deserved victory.

Ansley CC Women's XI ( 102 for 2) lost to
Bloxwich CC Women's XI (107 for 1) by 6 wickets
(Warwickshire Women's 20:20 League)

Another good team performance resulted in another 20:20 victory for Bloxwich.
Pick of the batsmen was Cheryl Allcock who scored 70 not out.

Bloxwich CC Women's XI (47 for 1) beat
Kenilworth Wardens Women's XI (46 all out) by 6 wickets
(Warwickshire Women's 20:20 League)

Bloxwich moved into second place in the league after a comfortable victory over
Kenilworth. Bloxwich won the toss and asked the visitors to bat, then bowled with
accuracy to dismiss Kenilworth for 46 runs. Opening bowlers Cheryl Allcock (3-9)
and Sharan Moore (1-14) were excellently supported by Gemma Birch (3-3).
In reply Bloxwich lost just one wicket when Birch was bowled, but Allcock
(16 not out) and skipper Hayley Worgan (6 not out) saw them home.

Wirksworth CC Women's XI (173 all out) lost to
Bloxwich CC Women's XI (176 for 6) by 4 wickets
Women's Midlands League - Division 2 (North East)

Bloxwich had an excellent afternoon in Derbyshire winning their first ever Sunday
League game.
Wirksworth won the toss and elected to bat on a very hot afternoon. Bloxwich started
well with their bowling attack taking early wickets, with Sharon Moore (4-25), Cheryl
Allcock (2-36), Nicola Salt (1-19) and Emma Pearce (1-22) restricting the Wirksworth
runs. A good partnership between Wirksworth opener C.Steinhobel (82) and C.Ibotson (26)
steadied the ship and moved the score along. The Bloxwich bowlers stuck to their task
and with good support in the field from wicket keeper Faye Perry and youngsters Amanda
Suffolk, Charlotte Hale and Millie Rochelle-Bates they were able to restrict Wirksworth to
173 in the 32nd over. Other Bloxwich bowlers were Hayley Worgan, Jayne Allcock and
Rachel Perry who all bowled well for no success.
In reply Bloxwich openers Cheryl Allcock and Emma Pearce got them off to a flying start
with an array of shots to all corners of the ground. Cheryl Allcock hit a quick fire 19 before
being bowled, bringing skipper Hayley Worgan to the crease and in an excellent partnership
with Pearce she quickly raced to a big hitting 41 runs. The remaining Bloxwich bats played
sensibly defending their wicket and allowing Emma to smash the runs with an excellent
display of batting to finish on 73 not out and win the game for Bloxwich in 28 overs.

Bloxwich CC Women's XI (77 all out) lost to
Leicester CC Women's XI (203 for 4) by 126 runs
(Women's Midlands League - Division 2 (North East)

Bloxwich came up against a very strong Leicester side who had a powerful opener, Marriott,
batting well for 66 runs. She was initially well supported by fellow opener Foster who was
excellently caught behind by Faye Perry from the bowling of Emma Pearce (1-40). Marriott
then forged a good partnership with Simms before being bowled by skipper, Hayley Worgan
(1-40). Simms was then joined by Heeley (23) and they batted well together before Heeley
was removed by the returning Laura Wilkinson (1-41). Cheryl Allcock took the other Leicester
wicket, skipper Day being bowled for no runs. Simms went on to total 46 not out supported
at the end by Toal (15). Sharan Moore (0-26) was the other Bloxwich bowler. The bowlers
were well supported in the field by Jayne Allcock and Rachel Perry.
Bloxwich started well with Allcock (37) continuing to score freely, supported well by
Pearce (5) and Worgan (3). She was batting particularly well, playing an array of shots,
before being removed by a tremendous diving catch from Marriott to take a bullet of a ball
off her own bowling. The other Bloxwich bats defended well for little runs as they tried to
hold out for a draw but were all out for 77 runs in 34.3 overs, just over 5 overs short. A special
mention must go to youngsters Millie Rochelle-Bates (2) and Charlotte Mincher who both
batted and fielded exceptionally well, and Amanda Suffolk who ended on 2 not out.

Bloxwich CC Women's XI (150 for 7) drew with
Anston CC Women's XI (164 for 9)
Women's Midlands League - Division 2 (North East)

Bloxwich came away with a draw from a very entertaining game which they almost won at
the end needing just 15 more runs for victory.
Anston won the toss and elected to bat. The Bloxwich bowlers found conditions difficult as
a strong wind caused them problems and meant that too many wides were bowled.
Cheryl Allcock (3-20) soon mastered the conditions and was the pick of the Bloxwich
bowlers. The other Bloxwich bowlers were Laura Wilkinson (2-30), Nicola Salt (2-36),
Hayley Worgan (1-34) and Emma Pearce (0-29).
The Bloxwich batting started aggressively with Allcock (53) and Pearce (27) scoring freely
with an excellent opening partnership of 74. The remaining Bloxwich bats were sensible
and all batted well, almost reaching the required total, with Nicola Salt (12 not out) and
youngster Charlotte Mincher (1 not out) holding out for the draw.

Derby CC Women's 2nd XI (124 all out) lost to
Bloxwich CC Women's XI (126 for 3) by 7 wickets
Women's Midlands League - Division 2 (North East)

Bloxwich travelled to picturesque Derbyshire to take on top of the table Derby 2nd XI on a
hot afternoon. After winning the toss Bloxwich invited the hosts to bat. The Bloxwich
bowling attack tore into Derby with Emma Pearce (2-15) and Nicola Salt (4-31) taking two
wickets apiece to restrict Derby to 22 for 4 before J.Brough (38) steadied the ship. Once
Brough was removed by Hayley Worgan (2-35), Rachel Perry (1-14) and a fiery Cheryl
Allcock (1-8) helped Worgan and Salt to remove the remaining Derby batswomen, well
supported by Lauren Pearce (0-17). The Bloxwich fielders had a tremendous day
supporting the bowlers with wicket keeper Faye Perry taking two catches behind the
stumps and Emma Pearce taking three catches in the field. A superb team effort from
Bloxwich was assisted in the field with good running and throwing from Jayne Allcock,
Robin Brazier, Charlotte Mincher and debutant mom, Deborah Mincher.
In reply Bloxwich started aggressively with Allcock and Pearce enjoying a partnership
of 46 before Pearce was bowled by Brough (1-16) for a quickfire 16. Worgan then came
to the crease and batted excellently for a partnership of 41 with Allcock (48). Salt
(7 not out) supported Worgan (39 not out) to see Bloxwich home by 7 wickets in what
was a tremendous result for Bloxwich.

The end of the season saw us finish 2nd in the Midlands Women’s 40 over League and
3rd in the Warwickshire 20:20 League. What a great season we have had and I look
forward to seeing you all at winter nets.

A big thank you must go to Gary and Jacqui Pearce for their continued support and for
scoring, ordering kit and match reports. Also to Mark Swinton for wicket keeping coaching,
which has helped Faye improve throughout the season. Kelton Scott for preparing the pitch,
Lee Perry for constant support and being convoy leader, Mike and Joan Scott for teas and
continued encouragement. And finally to Martin Wootton who has umpired, coached and
supported us throughout this season, with his help individuals have developed immensely
which in turn has increased the team’s performance as a whole. I would like to thank
anyone else who I have been unable to mention.
